The speakers on my 4 year old Phillips TV are pretty much shot.?

I have purchased a good wireless headset for myself and they work great. Recently I attached a pair of inexpensive (40 watt) speakers and with an adapter plugged them into the same headphone jack I have been succesfully using. The volume on them was so low I returned them. I have been speaking with sales people in electronic stores who all say I need a transmitter to get speakers to work from that plug. I can’t believe that I have to have one!? If I buy speakers with higher wattage will they work? Any suggestions?

Yep you need a pre-amp…try radio shack…you should be able to get one there for about $20…good luck.
